INSTITUTE OF THERMAL ENERGY
Division of Fuels and Renewable Energy
Scientific, teaching and research activities of the Unit of Fuels and Renewable Energy are focused on two main areas, i.e. thermal energy and renewable energy. The research work deals with issues related to improving the energy efficiency of industrial facilities, low carbon combustion technologies of fossil and renewable fuels as well as the replacement of conventional energy carriers with renewable sources or their combination.
Ongoing projects solve problems related to the flow of liquids and gases in technological installations and heat transfer processes in power equipment and machinery. An important group of research are issues related to the combustion processes of fossil fuels and alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and biomass. Theoretical analyses and experimental work deal with the possibility of fuel interchangeability, including decarbonization related to trend of reduction of the negative impact of power generation processes on the environment, by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and toxic compounds (NOx, CO, dust, SOx).
